Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War Episode: 7 "Born in the Dark"

Giovani

Welcome I'm your host, ANII.

Dani

And I'm your host, Danielle.

Giovani

Hi, Danielle,

Dani

Hey, how's it going?

Giovani

Um, not bad. Not bad. Uh, so is it, right? This is the part of bleach.

Dani

It's the second part of season one, so, We need to, I guess, pump out the rest of these so we can get on back on track.

Giovani

But that's cool. That's cool. So,

Dani

are you excited for the, um, for like, what's up, up next?

Giovani

I am excited. I saw a little of the, uh, I saw a little of the, the previews and they look really good. And, there's the Shinji part that everybody's we usually do the dubs. So they do the subs and then a week later they do the dubs. And uh, we usually watch the dubs. I know that you are okay with watching either one. You could do I've done but, a

Dani

Yeah, it's easier, but I mean, sometimes when you're, you have to wait so long for the dubs to come out that I. Don't have the kind of patience to wait on a dub,

Giovani

Right,

Dani

if they, there's no good timeline on when it's supposed to come out. So yeah, I am, uh, either or kind of girl

Giovani

right. Me too. But nowadays, I prefer dubs. Like convenient It's still bleach,

Dani

Well, I, I do find that, that unless I ha, you know, if I have a choice, I would rather watch the dubs too. Just cause, just because it's distracting. I think, I feel like you can pay more attention to the actual story when you're not having to read and pay attention at the same time. So,

Giovani

always

Dani

just, it's just always so much action. Yeah. So dubs, dubs are easier to watch, but you know, if they're taking too long, like I don't have, have the patience for it. Do you remember when I watched, I think it was like food wars. Not well, Naruto too, but food wars. Food wars took forever for them to, dub over. Yeah. So I, I, it was subs all the way for me, so, Yeah.

Giovani

ready to get into this episode? Born in the Dark?

Dani

Uh, yep. It was, it was a good episode.

Giovani

I thought so.

Dani

Yeah.

Giovani

this, this last episode was sad to me. It was very dark. So we'll see and it bit?

Dani

Okay. Sure. Uh, well, we, um, opened up the ep well, the, well, to, before I get into what we opened up with, the title of the episode is called, born in the Dark. Is that okay, Just making sure I got it right. I wasn't ready to say Rath was lightning, but I'm like, no, that's the last one. Okay.

Giovani

the

Dani

Born in the Dark. So that was the name of this episode. And we got a lot of, usually sometimes we are left scratching our heads as to what exactly that meant or, sometimes they don't address it. I think we got a little bit more clarity this time around, um, in terms of what the title means. Yeah.

Giovani

As a we know what it means,

Dani

Well, yeah, cuz I mean, usually we're like going back and forth as to what it could mean or we just straight up don't know you

Giovani

We just don't know.

Dani

Yeah. Right. Or maybe when it just, yeah, it just went over our heads and we didn't get it or whatever. But, um, this one was pretty clear and,

Giovani

so the, it amaz, the scene starts off with it's like a flaming, burnt, burnt you know? But these weren't reishi reishi fires. These were flames, orange And that's when looking at a flashback, right?

Dani

Yeah. Yeah, I didn't get that immediately. It was a flashback.

Giovani

And flames are surrounding the Sereti. And then you see Stern rit, I don't know if we can call them Stern Ritter, but Quincy Troops one side by Yuha. And on the other side there is, there's Yamamoto and his original Getei 13. His 13

Dani

No, not really. I mean, the, those Quincy's were pretty much all slaughtered. So it was, it was just like a, a mountain of, dead quincy's

Giovani

That Quincy's,

Dani

Yeah.

Giovani

so you have a battalion of Quincy's. With their leader Ywach and you have 13, I guess they're captains and they're making quick work of Quincy, like killing them which made possible. they were slamming heads together, being cut in half, maimed, uh, scorched. It was brutal. The beating.

Dani

Yes.

Giovani

Yamamoto, he's climbing on these dead corpses of, um, I guess of the Quincy that he defeated. he's staring Yhwach straight in the eye and it's about to go down. fight's about to take place. Uhhas given this grin, like I've been waiting for this, and out of nowhere under the. Dead bodies other than the course Sasa Kibei raises himself and stabs Yha in the back, and that's when Yamamoto appears and gives yha the finishing blow. Whether the salsa Kibei was in the way, he, it seemed like he didn't even care. He was just there to do that blow. And, uh, he appears to kill you.

Dani

I mean that's, that's how it looked to me. I, I was, it was so unexpected to see, um, Sasaki coming up from under the pile cuz it was just like, okay, where did you come from? But, I guess it was an ambush. It didn't require, yeah, much to put much effort into, uh, killing him, cuz after, after that, cause he stabbed him straight in the, the heart.

Giovani

Right.

Dani

yeah. From the, from behind.

Giovani

blow.

Dani

Yeah.

Giovani

It was a quick blow and it wasn't much of a fight. They did show that the, the fake Yhwach, which was. Lloyd Roy, did, it did show the memories of that fight and how it took place and how Yamamoto only pretty much had one move the flaming sword and was defeated. So, um, I don't know. It was a, soul wan.

Dani

Well, yeah, and I mean, it was, I guess a, a, um, a good juxtaposition of like, what happened then and what's happening now because they, they do this thing where, when it comes to maybe flashbacks or maybe point of views where they change like the coloring of the scene. It's like a lot of white and blue. Right. To give you an indication that, okay, one, we're dealing with Quincy's and two, you know, this took place in the past. So here we have in the, in the flashback, all these quincy's being slaughtered, and then you put it side to side with like what's taking place with all the soul Reapers essentially being slaughtered in the same way.

Giovani

So, and then they cut to the next scene where you have Shunsui and Yamamoto. You have a kid Shunsui, I guess he's maybe 12, and he's staring at this painting. And I guess before that he's in Yamamotos room, Yamamotos, chasing like, what are you doing in here? Get outta here. Kids scram. And then he asked about the painting on the wall and he says, uh, that? Yamamoto like, monster?

Dani

He was just, Trespassing in Yamamotos room, like you said, and the painting on the wall, it showed, uh, a man covered in like a mountain of flames. And at first, I think we, we were thinking when he referred to, when Yamamoto said, yeah, that was a monster. Like maybe he was flashing back to, um, maybe the scene that we just saw, the the right, the big battle. I kind of feel like if it's, you know, since he was covered in flames in that way, and even though he's referring to him as a monster, maybe he was more like insightful and he was referring to himself being in that place where he has to become that person to take down, Yuha. So he was referring to himself as a monster. Maybe. I, I, I feel like it was a picture of himself, essentially.

Giovani

It was a picture of, of young Girl Yamamoto,

Dani

Yeah,

Giovani

but I always thought that Yamamoto was a villain. Him and his, his, uh, go tie 13, a bad yha. He was just

Dani

well, yeah, yeah. Essentially, that's what I'm trying to say. Like, you know, people, um, Well, I mean, I was gonna say, well, people change, but I'm not sure if he's changed or if it's just the circumstances have presented themselves where he doesn't have to really do that right now.

Giovani

Well, I think he's changed and

Dani

you know,

Giovani

can talk about that, you know, but I think he's, changed if Talks about how but.

Dani

I mean, yeah, I mean maybe in terms of like, not cutting people down. In the blink of an eye or whatever, but like he's still kinda, no mercy. He was willing, he sent out those orders to kill Rukia, no problem. you

Giovani

Right, right. But there's a lot of wiggle room to argue there because that was Central 46 who gave that order? So you can say that just following orders and he's always about just like, Byakua. Byakua is kind of the same way. Kuchki,

Dani

Yeah.

Giovani

orders So leeway, there's no interpretation.

Dani

true. So I, I don't know, maybe, maybe he has maybe, like I said, maybe it's just that there's no war, so he, he doesn't need to be pulling out the swords and the flames and cutting people down, but he's still ready to go whenever, however, you know. That's neither here nor there because the next scene flash after the, um, the flashback with Shunsui and, younger Yamamoto in, in the room, the next scene flashes to current Yamamoto sliced in half I, I think this is the official. Well, for now, we, because it's bleaching. You never know, but

Giovani

So Yuhas,

Dani

yeah,

Giovani

Yuha, did slice him with his mighty sword and

Dani

Yeah.

Giovani

he's kind of mocks Yamamoto with Jugram, by his side, and he's saying how he's a disappointment and E, but even in death. Yamamoto grasping at Yhwach trying to stop him and he cuts his hand off like he's already dead. But his was willing him to still try to stop Yhwach and he

Dani

Yeah.

Giovani

this is why not one of special threats.

Dani

Yeah, he, you know, he says that he's soft, he's weak. Shunsui tried to help, but he got shot in the process of trying to help,

Giovani

Right when he

Dani

you know?

Giovani

that the spiritual pressure go down, he shot multiple times by Robert. Robert

Dani

Yeah,

Giovani

And, uh, when yhwach, he, scoring him like you should have gotten or he or he made to help arm. But you didn't,

Dani

right,

Giovani

were hesitant to get Ichigo involved with, I guess, the Eisen situation. grew a heart

Dani

so,

Giovani

subordinates as So up,

Dani

To, I guess, yeah, my mother being soft and weak and I, or according to you, changing

Giovani

Some of this can be growth and also stubbornness, right? Like he's missing, I'm sure life would be a lot easier if he had two hands,

Dani

right.

Giovani

I don't know. have probably got a

Dani

after he finished him, basically set him on fire and set his remains to ash.

Giovani

So

Dani

captain is out.

Giovani

I'm not sure of the name of the technique. Yuha used to disintegrate Yama Mo's body, but it just seemed like it was it was, and then, Yuha,

Dani

Notifies. Yeah.

Giovani

to kill everyone who's resides in the Sereti But these grunts, they, they're not special. not very powerful, they are more of a, a numbered officer. So

Dani

Yep. Uh, every, everybody's being attacked. Fighting isn't and, uh, the soul Reapers, as we've seen so far is losing

Giovani

Big time.

Dani

Yeah. Big time. Big time.

Giovani

The

Dani

So,

Giovani

Soul Reapes Overmatched, and at this point, Yuha and its Sternritters are waiting for the royal guard the um, doesn't

Dani

he's, he thinks he is one. He thinks it's like he's in the process of wrapping things up and it's over and then we flash to, um, Ago who we haven't seen in quite some time. I think it's been a few episodes since we've even said his name He's going crazy in the prison trying to break out. And he, uh, gives it one last, heave hole in terms of,, using his sword to use his power to break out. And that actually works this time. When it cracks open, we see that. he had some help from the outside. He was having help from the outside in terms of breaking out.

Giovani

out

Dani

Well, I think I, I got the impression that it was from like both sides, like, right, like he was doing, Agon was doing his thing on his side, and then with Ichigo, um, using his power to like go ahead and break open from his side. I think it was the double effort that it really did it.

Giovani

Okay. That's interesting. I have to go back and look at that.

Dani

but I, I I may be wrong, but I thought it was a double effort.

Giovani

Ichigo out He's met by Chaz Domino. And Chaz Domino doesn't stand a chance. He pretty much announces himself, this is who I am. And then he's immediately struck down by Echiko? So this goes to the next scene where Ichigo is Byakua saying to protect the Sereti.

Dani

Yeah, he's in pretty bad shape.

Giovani

yeah, he's, he's pretty much for,

Dani

Yeah.

Giovani

Byakua, he does ask to do one solid for him, and Ichigo Right. I mean, what do you think about that?

Dani

What to help protect the soul society. That's what he asked them to do.

Giovani

Right.

Dani

And, um,

Giovani

He just let

Dani

Well, I mean,

Giovani

at this.

Dani

the way I looked at it is that, know, he's asking him to protect the soul society, like it's a dying wish and because he, he's not gonna be a around to do it. So I just kinda looked at it with Ichigo, not answering like, okay, well I'm not gonna acknowledge this because you are not gonna die. I am gonna save you. If I, if I agree to this, then that's me admitting that you're about to die. You know? So that's how I was kind of, that's how I took it.

Giovani

That's a good way to think because I was thinking kind of each Ichigo was saying, I've saved the social society on numerous occasions, so you don't even have to ask. I'm gonna do it.

Dani

Either way, either viewpoint could be correct They're both, I feel like, applicable to how we see, Ichigo behave and how he seems to think. We're back with, Ywach and Ichigo is making a set a, a typical dramatic ichigo entrance

Giovani

All right.

Dani

by throwing his sword in, and it lands right in front of Yhwach Con to confront Yhwach. Yhwach. We see that, Bakia sword crumbles. So,

Giovani

that? usually

Dani

yeah, that's how I asked, that's what I took from it, that he was dead. But you know, we not, we didn't get confirmation on that. We just saw the sh the the sort, crumbling or shattering.

Giovani

If you die, your bonai dies. It's, it's, they have like that. So as of now, I'm taking it that

Dani

Okay.

Giovani

Maybe he's dying.

Dani

And, uh, so yeah, each ego begins to fight Yhwach.

Giovani

right. far? know.

Dani

Uh, yeah, that initially wasn't clear. I mean, what was clear was that a lot of power was being used,

Giovani

Tremendous amount of

Dani

you know,

Giovani

There was tons of spiritual but I just remember seeing like, wow and gets

Dani

Yeah, he got, he gets immobilized, like right in the neck. I was, I didn't, it just came outta nowhere. I was a little surprised after all of that, action that took place that, or that was taking place. So, yeah, he, he got him down.

Giovani

So, yeah, he's stabbed in the neck, but. protected. It seems like Ichigo these blut venoms through his skin, and that is the defense of that, Quincy's used. So maybe the shield, maybe something, he has the Blut the veins,

Dani

um, Yuha seemed shocked to to see that Ichigo had that power as well. Then he gives a whole, monologue on, I guess his theory on why Ichigo has that power, which is essentially he's saying that while Ichigo was trapped in his prison. In his efforts to break himself out, his spiritual pressure mixed with Quige, spiritual pressure, and it awakened dormant power in him and memories.

Giovani

So Ichigo has a little Quincy in him. That's that this dormant power, power is

Dani

which, and this, and that's why he was saying, um, help with breaking out, saying that really why Ichigo was able to break out is because the prison was built for Holden. so Reapers or Arrancars, not Quincy's. So the fact that Ichigo might be a Quincy is the reason he was able to break out of his prison.

Giovani

So let's get this straight. Ichigo is part human. Port Iran Carr. a visor substitute. bringer, now

Dani

that's a lot of mixing up there.

Giovani

That's

Dani

know, I don't, I don't, you know, it, it does toe the line of, you know, how you always have these, um, Characters, Or superhero types. And sometimes when writers get to writing, they overpower the character, meaning like all of a sudden the character can do just about everything. And anything that you can think of, you, you like

Giovani

ancestry test. That's like

Dani

I mean that too, but I mean, that's a lot right? He is essentially a little bit of everybody

Giovani

from what I.

Dani

that

Giovani

The last I, I saw in Ur town, Eisen is talking with Ichigo and he's about to let the cat out the bag. He said, uh, Ichigo, you are part human in part. And he was gonna say, so Reaper. But that's when KO's father came in ing Kosaki and he interrupts. Now they're kind of rewriting the story a little bit, saying

Dani

well, yeah, that's what Yuha was, uh, uh, alluding to. He was saying essentially, you don't know the truth about your mother.

Giovani

since, humans are quincy's, they both can coexist and that's what's happened. So then we go to another fight, a second fight. Each go gets his, power up. He gets his second win. And this fight is the one that got me, this is the one that stopped to chill me. And I couldn't look away from the TV because the music was just so, haunting. Where I actually felt like, Yuha could, he could kill Ichigo because he wasn't playing with him anymore. He saw something that him. You saw that he was one of those special threats, and he had to handle Ichigo a little differently now. And I just remember the imagery, the music, right after

Dani

That, that was a, um, I mean all of it was good, but that particular, part was really, impactful I guess. He seemed like he wanted itchy go. Cause he wasn't, even though he had him immobilized him down, he was trying to take him with him.

Giovani

he he would So

Dani

Maybe, but he also told, um, the Stern, the Stern Raider. That was he also. Okay. But that's, that's not, I'm not saying he didn't say that. I'm saying that he also told the Stern Raider that was with him to let's be. Make sure he's alive and we're gonna take him essentially. I'm paraphrasing, but he, we are gonna take him with us. So he wanted him for a reason, but I guess this he wanted itchy go.

Giovani

him,

Dani

But, but he was taking him with him is what I'm saying.

Giovani

Right.

Dani

He was getting ready to head back to where, his realm and he was taking him with him. So I, I assume it's for a reason that we don't know yet, but, Once he's Right. Exactly. So once the show power takes place, then it seems like the tables have turned and it's like, okay, now no mercy. We need to take him out. Cause we underestimated who we're dealing with.

Giovani

The shadow shimmers in them and they realize that. There time is up and that they need to go back to, uh, Quincy Heaven. We'll just call it Quincy Heaven. So Yhwach was saying like, how did this happen? It must have been my time with Eisen. Eisen must have done some sore trick. And I'm thinking, did Ison, does he have a Shikai release? Where he can change the, the, the time perception, the complete hypnosis, or is this the hokey cue icing is using? Whatever happened, it affected Yhwach and didn't affect Jugram, cuz U in consciousness of going

Dani

I guess Eisen played a trick on him. For what reason? Uh, I don't know. but they ran out of time before he can finish each go off. And so ev all the stern raiders start stepping back into their realm. We don't get an idea of what would happen if they stayed during this time that they're out of, what will be the consequences for them to stay? So we, we didn't get a good idea as to what would, what that would be, but we just know that they're taking off because they can't stay.

Giovani

But Ichigo Ichigo, he's doesn't want to end this yet. So he's like, where are you going? And he runs after Jugram and, Yhwach. Like he could actually stop them, like he's been beaten twice. He's going in for a third time, and just looks at his right hand. Man, Jugram, Jugram. One strike shatters the sword have if he really wanted to. That's how powerful one reveal

Dani

He's saying farewell to his son. Born in the dark, so,

Giovani

are Quincy You're son.

Dani

right. But we in the dark could be interpreted a few ways. I'm sure you know, whether it's Like in, in their little shadow realm that they have, or it just in the dark, as in you are ignorant of your true origins,

Giovani

Exactly.

Dani

you know, so. Right,

Giovani

idea.

Dani

right. So, we, so, so that, yeah, that ties back into the title of the episode, and so we. We got better clarity as to what that meant this time around.

Giovani

And after the, the, the credits, I paid attention to the outro and we got all these steel shots of the original Gotei 13.

Dani

Oh, yeah.

Giovani

it was, so cool. You got to see the, the old school, the very first, 13 court guard. And who they are. We don't know any names. We don't know any powers. We just know that they're killing machines, and hope we get more on that. We need There's

Dani

Yeah. Yeah, we we're getting a lot of references to them, but not a whole ton of information about them. I guess, you know, that's usually how it works with bleach. You know, we, if we're getting the references, then I'm sure the storyline is coming so and hopefully they've changed, just like Yamamoto has changed and they're not still the super duper killing machines like you said, that they once were.

Giovani

Well, maybe we know them and don't really know. We know them

Dani

Uh, well, that too,

Giovani

don't

Dani

Yeah.

Giovani

So what did

Dani

Bankais uh, I'm always hesitant to like, go all the way to 10. I'll give it like a nine, and a half. I, I really like this episode. And the music, how they did the coloring, it just, everything looked good. And the the story moved along a whole lot. We got a, we had a lot of reveals. Which was surprising.

Giovani

Uh,

Dani

And

Giovani

gave

Dani

she

Giovani

a nine five.

Dani

Okay.

Giovani

it a nine five. It to me this wasn't as as the fire episode. But it still a lot of.

Dani

I guess so. Yeah.

Giovani

Drama. It's, it was, the fights weren't as good, I don't think. But it was just, you said, pacing and the continuation of the story. The story didn't drop completely off from to seven, really

Dani

Yeah.

Giovani

Uh, you gonna do the best and worst?

Dani

For my best, let me think. Well, I did like how, um, they did the, I guess the second round of the fight scene with Ichigo and Yuha. It made Ichigo look really impressive and like he was be a force to be reckoned with. So, um, I thought that, I thought that was executed pretty well.

Giovani

you looking notes, that's

Dani

Oh, I am

Giovani

my best too.

Dani

uh,

Giovani

That's my, best too. That's my the second fight between

Dani

great Yeah.

Giovani

Between Yhwach and Ichi Go was really good from, and I was talking about how the music kind of drew you into the fight and that second fight was just on a different level where, wasn't playing with Ichigo anymore, and it showed how powerful he was because get to that when he fought your Yamamoto. So I

Dani

Um, I guess it's not really, uh, se. It's more worst in terms of like, okay, we got it. Well, we, they've alluded to confirmation of. More death. So Byakua is out. We have the nail in the coffin essentially for Yamamoto. So he's done. So I, yeah, I guess that would be my worst. Cause those, they're, they're both out and you hate to see, think that. Nobody likes killing characters off, but sometimes I guess it has to be done

Giovani

Right, and

Dani

story along.

Giovani

That is my worst too. It's along the same Bakia dying and I guess it's being presumptuous cuz I don't know he's dead yet. But his sword shattering is an omen. It's a pretty bad omen.

Dani

I think that's it for this episode. Oh, um, just so anyone listening wants to know the song that we were referring to, if you haven't watched the episode yet, well, you should definitely go watch the episode. But, um, the song and that like Second Fight with Yuha is called, nothing Can Be Explained. I'm gonna get this wrong, but bear with me. Shiro, excuse me, so it's called, nothing Can be Explained. It was a really good, it really set the mood for, um, that fight scene, I think it was a different take in music that we usually hear from bleach. Bleach always has good music, but I, I don't recall hearing that type before. So just say anybody, if anybody wants to know. Next episode is called the Shooting Star Project, so we're gonna look forward to, um, seeing what that's about.

Giovani

Episode eight.

Dani

yes, episode eight, the Shooting Star project. So
